My name is Brenda Thompson, and I am a 47-year-old mother of five.
When I was a teenager, I witnessed my father murder my mother. The pain was overwhelming, and I turned to addiction in an attempt to numb the hurt. That path led me in and out of jail, and for a long time, I believed my life would never change.
But God.
Through Mrs. Linda Vickers and the Safe Haven program, God gave me a new beginning. He restored my relationship with my children and my family, healed my broken heart, and set me free from the chains of my past. The generational curse has ended. Today, I live with forgiveness, purpose, and hope because of the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
I stand on the promise of Philippians 1:6:
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
I also hold close the words of Isaiah 61:3:
“To provide for those who mourn in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”
My story is proof that God can take even the deepest pain and turn it into a testimony of His grace. He has given me beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, and a future filled with hope. All glory belongs to Him.
